TOURNAMENT HISTORY

OPEN BOHUMÍN

The Open Bohumín chess festival has a short history so far, but it can be said with certainty that it will have a promising future. Already the first year, which took place in 2018 at the Hotel Pod Zeleným dubem in Bohumín, could boast of a very strong participation, which is not usual for the premieres of such tournaments. At that time, the second placed GM Pavel Šimáček, who stood out among the Ukrainian grandmasters, won the tournament.

The second year was moved to the Fontána Children's and Youth Center in Bohumín due to problems with the hotel rental. The second year was dominated by a regular participant in the tournaments organised by SK Slavia Orlova, Ukrainian grandmaster Eduard Andreev.

Slight organisational complications occurred in the third year, when it was not entirely clear until the last moment whether the tournament would be able to take place at all due to the global pandemic. In the end, everything turned out according to the best possible scenarios, and the tournament took place under increased measures in July instead of the traditional May dates. The third year, which was also held in DDM Fontána, was dominated by the favourite, of the tournament and academic world champion, IM Tadeáš Kriebel. Among other things, the main tournament in classical chess is always supplemented by a blitz and a bughouse tournament. The organising teams Chess School Bohumín and SK Slavia Orlová have always taken care of the first-class organisation and course of the entire festival each year, and it can be seen. Not every chess open can boast of such a strong foreign, but also domestic player representation, online transmission of the highest chess boards and, of course, a generous prize pool, like Open Bohumín
